
Hey y’all! My name is Moira Johnson. I am a fitness instructor, personal trainer, and holistic health coach based in Charlottesville, VA. My passion is helping people find joy in movement and taking care of their bodies. I also love to write!
I first found community in group fitness classes and began to train as an instructor during my first year in college. It was while teaching a kickboxing class at the age of nineteen, jumping around and sweating with an energized group of my peers, that I had my ah-ha moment – I remember the thought popping into my head “this is AWESOME! How is this my job?!”
From that moment of clarity, I’ve sought different ways of helping people connect to that feeling – that sense of pride you get when you take care of your body, the comfort of feeling at home in your own skin, the pleasure of a deep stretch after a tough workout.
I share this blog with the intention of providing resources to new exercisers, lifelong fitness buffs, health and wellness professionals, and everyone in between. I’ll address common questions I hear from my clients, colleagues, and friends, including:
- How do I choose a personal trainer?
- What exactly is health coaching?
- How can I hold myself accountable to working out regularly?
- What can I do to stay motivated week after week, month after month, year after year?
As a parent, I hold a special place for other mothers, and seek to provide information that can help empower and support them with the incredible tasks of growing, birthing, and caring for humans – and rediscovering ourselves in the process. Some common questions I will address are:
- How can I mentally and physically prepare for birth?
- Will my body ever feel the same again?
- As a new mom, I can’t find the time to exercise!
- How can I get my kid moving?
- How can I help my family to eat more healthfully?
Finally, after extensive professional work in employee wellness, and as an academic research associate with a brain-heavy but body-sedentary desk job, I can relate to the challenges that busy professionals face. Together we’ll dig in to questions such as:
- How can I find time to exercise between my work commitments?
- What actions can I take during the day to take care of my body so I can get deep and restorative sleep at night?
- How can I develop my brain-body connection to enhance focus and concentration?
